LUXEMBOURG POST on 10 September 1994 issued a stamp marking the 50th anniversary of the liberation of Luxembourg from Nazi Germany. The stamp shows American forces arriving in Luxembourg City, which German troops surrendered without much resistance. The cachet is unique in that it depicts U.S. General Patton.
American soldiers arrived in Luxembourg on the 9th September 1944. Their troops and tanks were first seen in Petingen. That was also where the first American soldier died on Luxembourg soil.
