Republique Francaise Poste Paul Gaugain

REPUBLIQUE FRANCAISE POSTE on 23 September 1968 issued a  First Day Cover stamp commemorating the art of Paul Gaugain, featuring his work entitled "Joyfulness", which was painted in 1892. This multicoloured stamp had a face value of 1F (French franc). Claude Robert Ernest Durrens was the designer. A Recess printing method was used to print 8,567,000 stamps. A special postmark of a line-drawn image of Gaugain was designed for this stamp and originated from Paris. Shown here is a maxi card (postal stationery) depicting the same stamp image.
