NIPPON YŪBIN (Japan Post) on 1 October 1942 issued a 15-sen youth aviation trainee (often referred to as a "boy aircraftsman" or Shōnen Kōkūhei) wearing a standard flight helmet and goggles while executing a military salute.
This stamp is an important piece of postal history from the Empire of Japan during World War II. As Japan deeply engaged in the Pacific theater of WWII, the government transitioned its postage designs away from traditional landscapes and structures to themes focused strictly on war efforts and national mobilization. This Second Shōwa Series featured factory workers, agricultural labor, and military personnel.
The stamp reads Dai Nippon Teikoku, meaning "Empire of Greater Japan." The top centre contains the Chrysanthemum Crest (Imperial Seal of Japan).
