The maxim card (postcard) carried the headline "Wiedervereinigung Saar mit Deutschland 1. Januar 1957" directly referring to the event and reunification of the Saar with Germany which had been a French Protectorate since 1945. The French flag and the West German flags were depicted, representing the shift in political status from French protectorate to a state within West Germany. The State crest of Saarland is also represented on the card. Similarly the map visually illustrated the Saarland region and its surrounding areas, highlighting the border changes. It also showed the key cities like Saarbrücken, Neunkirchen, and Völklingen marked within its borders. The Moselle and Saar rivers were prominently featured on the map, indicating the region's geographical context.
On the reverse side of the card is a Saar postage stamp showing the Hauptpostamt (Main Post Office) in Saarbrücken. Interestingly, this is a stamp used when Saar was a Protectorate state under France; note the postage value is 12 Francs. The stamp was part of a definitive stamp series issued initially in 1954.
