Deutsche Bundespost Saarland no50 Jahre Grossstadt Saarbrücken

DEUTSCHE BUNDESPOST SAARLAND on 18 June 1959 issued a First Day Cover stamp commemorating "50 Jahre Grossstadt Saarbrücken" (50th Anniversary of Greater Saarbrücken).  It refers the formation of the modern city of Saarbrücken when it was merged with the cities of St. Johann and Malstatt-Burbach in 1909.

The blue coloured illustration of the stamp depicts the city of Saarbrücken, including its prominent buildings and a bridge over the Saar River. Saarbrücken is the capital and largest city in the state of Saarland (Germany), located on the Saar River and bordering France.
