Deutsches Reich 50th Anniversary of Nobel Award to Emil von Behring

DEUTSCHES REICH on 26 November 1940 issued a First Day Cover stamping commemorating the 50th anniversary of Emil von Behring (1854-1917) who was a German physiologist and recipient of the first Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine in 1901 for his work on serum therapy, particularly in the development of antitoxins for diphtheria and tetanus.

The First Day Cover postcard carried two German stamps (in the colours green and blue) of Emil von Behring. The text "Deutsches Reich" on the stamps indicated the country of origin, and "25 + 10" likely refers to the stamp's face value (25 Pfennig) and a surcharge (10 Pfennig) that may have been designated for a charitable cause. The commemorative postmarks originated from Marburg (Lahn) and Leverkusen J.G. Werk, where an "Erinnerungsfeier" (commemorative celebration) was held
