French Post-WWII Zone of Württember-Hohenzollern Lindauer Herbstwoche

FRENCH POST-WWII ZONE OF WÜRTTEMBER-HOHENZOLLERN (1947-1948) was created in 1945. It consisted of the southern half of the former state of Wurttemberg and the Prussian administrative region of Hohenzollern. Its capital was Tubingen.

On the right side of this postcard is a 12 Pfg (Pfennig) stamp featuring a portrait of Friedrich von Schiller and a special commemorative cachet related to the Lindauer Herbstwoche, originating from the French Occupation Zone of Württemberg. Postmark cancellation originated from Lindau, dated 28 September 1947.

The postcard cachet commemorates the Lindauer Herbstwoche (Lindau Autumn Week) Stamp Exhibition that was held in 1947. Specifically it states, "Briefmarken-Ausstellung" (Stamp Exhibition) and the dates "13-28. September 1947".

Lindau is a Bavarian town located on an island in Lake Constance (Bodensee), hence the illustration of the Lindau harbor with its iconic lighthouse and Bavarian Lion sculpture.
