PAN AMERICAN WORLD AIRWAYS released on 26 July 1947 a cover commemorating their first direct airmail flight from Damascus to New York using a Boeing 314 Clipper. A cachet in red Arabic/Roman script highlighted the flight. Two Syrian stamps were affixed to the cover: a plane flying over Kattineh Dam, circa 1946-1947; and a plane flying overhead and Kanawat at Djebel Druze, circa 1946. Postmark originated from Damascus. On the reverse side is a Syrian stamp whose revenue went to the Syrian Army - 1948. As was the practice back then, a postmarked cancellation of arrival states New York. Interestingly the postmark encourages Americans to buy "U.S. Payroll Savings Bonds". Inserted within the envelope was the original promotional card of another "First (Pan American) Flight".
