POS MALAYSIA on 22 September 1975 issued First Day Cover setent stamp marking Pertandingan Membaca Al-Quran (Quran Recital Competition Setenant Stamp). The setent stamp highlighted five mosques located in East and West Malaysia, including Masjid Ubadiah (Kuala Kangsar), Masjid Zahir (Alor Setar), Masjid Negara (Kuala Lumpur), Masjid Sultan Abu Bakar (Johor Bahru) and Masjid Bahagian Kuching (Sarawak).The cachet FDC depicted the National Mosque in Kuala Lumpur. This FDC was cancelled at Jalan Sultan Post Office in Petaling Jaya. Stadium Merdeka was the venue of the competition.
The International Quran Recital Competition has been held annually since 1961 in Malaysia. Tunku Abdul Rahman (the first Prime Minister of Malaysia) founded the International Quran Recital Competition. The event began on 9 March 1961 at Stadium Merdeka, Kuala Lumpur. Seven countries participated in this event including Singapore, Brunei, Thailand, Philippines, Indonesia, Sarawak and Malaya. In 1985, the competition was moved to the Putra World Trade Centre (PWTC).
